Our Story

On March 2, 2012, I was sitting in a theater with my mom, waiting for “Pirates of Penzance” to start. I had just texted my roommate because I had seen a guy I kind of liked at the theater with a date. We laughed about it for a minute and then I texted her, “I am so done with boys for a while.” My phone was on silent, anticipating the beginning of the play at 7:30. I opened it at 7:32 because the lights hadn’t gone down yet. I glanced down and realized I had just opened it to a phone call from a number that I didn’t recognize. I scrambled to get the phone up to my ear in the noisy theater.

“Hello?!” I shouted.

“Hi. This is Cody.”

“Who?!” I could barely hear the voice on the other end. I apologized for it being so loud.

“Cody.”

“Oh! Hi!”

He asked me on a date for the next day, which I gladly accepted. He wasn’t sure what we would be doing, but he would text me the details.

I hung up the phone and looked at my mom.

“What is it?” she said.

“I just got asked on a date.”

“By who?” She was just as shocked as I was.

“Cody.”

“What’s his last name?”

“I don’t know…he’s in my ward at church.”

I sat through the play, shocked that I got asked on a date. I never got asked out. I was the world’s worst flirt.

We went on a group date with two of his roommates to Crystal Hot Springs. It all felt so natural and fun. We got back at 10:00 and he walked me to my apartment. We started chatting and getting to know each other even more. We ended up talking until 2:30 in the morning.

We continued to date and started to hang out and talk (and talk and talk and talk) pretty much everyday. We were up until about 2:30 every morning, sitting on the couch laughing and chatting the hours away.

On July 19, 2012, we competed in a scavenger hunt with some friends. Little did I know that our friends were not competing and were actually setting up the location where he would be proposing to me. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and I said a definite YES!

We still spend everyday we possibly can together. I am more in love than I could ever imagine. I still wonder what compelled him to ask me out. (I mean, I didn’t flirt with him at all…and I thought that was the key!) We were married for eternity on December 28, 2012 and I couldn’t be happier!
